Are you interested in the agricultural practices of the area? Check out this day trip to satisfy your craving for local agriculture!
9:30: Begin your day with a tour of Dickinson’s Family farm. Here you can see the world’s tallest orchard ladder as well as some historical farm equipment. While you’re there make sure to pick yourself some fresh fruit!
11:00: Summerland Sweets is a favourite for both locals and visitors. Check out their fabulous selection of jams, syrups and jellies while you enjoy some ice-cream. They are open daily and have a video tour as well as a fruit winery with wines made from BC grown fruit.
12:00: Pack a picnic lunch from one of our deli’s, don’t forget some fresh fruit from one of our many fruit stands. Enjoy your picnic at the Summerland Ornamental Gardens located at the Research Station. See some of the plants engineered right here in Summerland as you take a stroll around the garden.
1:30: Stop at the Lavender Farm on Kirk Avenue to enjoy the beautiful lavender which is in bloom in late June to July.
2:00: Take a scenic drive through the roads of Summerland. See the many orchards and vineyards as well as the amazing view of Giants Head Mountain and Okanagan Lake. The Staff at the Summerland Visitors Center would be more than happy to provide you with a map of Summerland and direct you to some of these roads.
2:30: Sample some vinegar at The Vinegar Works. Learn about how vinegar is made or call ahead to book a tour. Take a nice walk through the vineyard to Saxon Estate Winery where you can enjoy tasting their organic wines.
